# Celerity Built-In Shortcuts Reference and How to Use Them

> A complete reference for all 12 built-in Celerity shortcuts, covering how to launch each site and run site-specific searches from the keyboard.

A shortcut is a short key mapped to a site URL. Every shortcut on the grid is available the moment you install Celerity — no configuration needed. You can launch a site with a single key, or search within it by adding a space and your query.

## The shortcut grid

When you open a new tab you see the shortcut grid: a responsive tile layout showing each shortcut's key and site name. Click any tile to open that site directly. On narrow screens the grid shows two columns; on wider screens it expands to four.

A **+** button fills any empty space at the end of the grid. Clicking it opens Settings so you can add a new shortcut immediately.

## Launching a site from the keyboard

1. Open a new tab — the shortcut grid appears.
2. Type the shortcut key (e.g. `g`).
3. Press <kbd>Enter</kbd>.

Celerity opens that site without any mouse interaction.

## Searching within a site

Every shortcut that has a `searchTemplate` supports direct site search. The template contains a `{}` placeholder that Celerity replaces with your URL-encoded query.

1. Open a new tab.
2. Type the shortcut key, then a **space**, then your query (e.g. `y lofi music`).
3. Press <kbd>Enter</kbd>.

Celerity constructs the search URL and navigates there immediately.

> [!NOTE]
>
> WhatsApp (`w`) does not have a `searchTemplate`, so typing `w some query` opens the WhatsApp Web homepage rather than running a search.

## Built-in shortcuts reference

| Key | Site | Launch action | Search example |
| - | - | - | - |
| `g` | Gmail | Opens inbox | `g invoice` |
| `y` | YouTube | Opens homepage | `y lofi music` |
| `n` | Netflix | Opens browse | `n stranger things` |
| `c` | ChatGPT | Opens chat | `c explain async await` |
| `gh` | GitHub | Opens homepage | `gh react hooks` |
| `r` | Reddit | Opens homepage | `r rust programming` |
| `w` | WhatsApp | Opens Web WhatsApp | *(no search template)* |
| `f` | Facebook | Opens homepage | `f old friends` |
| `s` | Spotify | Opens app | `s taylor swift` |
| `t` | Twitter / X | Opens homepage | `t openai` |

## How search templates work

Each shortcut's search path is a relative string appended to the site's base URL after `{}` is replaced with your query. For example, the YouTube shortcut uses:

```
base URL:        https://youtube.com/
searchTemplate:  /results?search_query={}
input:           y lofi music
resolved URL:    https://youtube.com/results?search_query=lofi%20music
```

Your query is percent-encoded before substitution, so spaces, special characters, and non-ASCII text are all handled correctly.

## Opening shortcut settings with the keyboard

Press <kbd>Alt</kbd>+<kbd>+</kbd> from any new tab page to open the Settings panel with focus already placed in the **Key** field of the "add new shortcut" row. This lets you add a shortcut entirely from the keyboard without reaching for the mouse.
