# Add, Edit, and Delete Your Celerity Keyboard Shortcuts

> Add your own keyboard shortcuts, update existing keys or URLs, and remove shortcuts you no longer need — all in the Celerity Settings panel.

Celerity keeps your shortcut list entirely in your hands. You can add any site you visit often, update a key or URL you no longer want, or remove shortcuts you have outgrown — all from the Settings panel without leaving your new tab page.

## Opening Settings

Reach the Settings panel in either of these two ways:

* Click the **gear icon** (⚙) in the top-right corner of any new tab page.
* Press <kbd>Alt</kbd> + <kbd>+</kbd> (the plus / equals key) anywhere on a new tab page.

## Adding a shortcut

The shortcut list always ends with an empty row — three blank input fields waiting for a new entry. Fill them in and confirm to create your shortcut.

**1. Open Settings**

Click the gear icon or press <kbd>Alt</kbd> + <kbd>+</kbd>.

**2. Scroll to the empty row**

The last row in the shortcut list has empty **Key**, **Name**, and **URL** placeholders. Click the **Key** field to start typing.

**3. Fill in the three fields**

Enter a unique key (e.g. `tw`), the site name (e.g. `Tailwind CSS`), and the URL (e.g. `tailwindcss.com`).

**4. Confirm the new shortcut**

Press <kbd>Enter</kbd> in any field, or click the **+** (add) button at the right end of the row.

**5. Verify the new tile**

The shortcut appears in the grid on your new tab page immediately — no refresh needed.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **URL auto-formatting** — Celerity normalizes what you type before saving:
>
> * A single-word input with no dots is expanded to a `.com` domain (e.g. `tailwind` becomes `tailwind.com`).
> * Any URL without a protocol gets `https://` prepended automatically (e.g. `tailwindcss.com` becomes `https://tailwindcss.com`).

> [!NOTE]
>
> If the key you typed already exists, a confirmation dialog asks whether you want to **override** the existing shortcut. Click **Override** to replace it, or **Cancel** to go back and choose a different key.

## Editing a shortcut

You can change a shortcut's key, display name, or URL at any time. Rows are read-only until you explicitly unlock them for editing.

**1. Open Settings**

Click the gear icon or press <kbd>Alt</kbd> + <kbd>+</kbd>.

**2. Find the shortcut row**

Scroll through the list until you see the shortcut you want to change.

**3. Enter edit mode**

Click the **pencil** (edit) button on the right side of the row. All three fields become editable and focus moves to the Key field.

**4. Make your changes**

Update the **Key**, **Name**, or **URL** as needed.

**5. Save**

Press <kbd>Enter</kbd> in any field, or click the **checkmark** (save) button that replaced the pencil icon.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Two validation rules apply when saving an edited shortcut:
>
> * **All fields are required.** Attempting to save with any empty field is blocked; focus moves to the first blank field so you can fill it in.
> * **Key collisions require confirmation.** If you change the key to one that already exists, a confirmation dialog asks whether to override it — the same flow as adding a duplicate key.

## Deleting a shortcut

Removing a shortcut takes only two clicks — a confirmation dialog protects you from accidental deletions.

**1. Open Settings**

Click the gear icon or press <kbd>Alt</kbd> + <kbd>+</kbd>.

**2. Find the shortcut row**

Scroll the list to the shortcut you want to remove.

**3. Click the trash icon**

Click the **trash** button on the right side of the row.

**4. Confirm the deletion**

Click **Delete** in the confirmation dialog. Click **Cancel** to abort and keep the shortcut.

**5. Verify removal**

The shortcut disappears from the grid immediately after you confirm.

## Empty state

If you delete every shortcut, the grid replaces all tiles with a single large **+** tile in the center. Click that tile to open Settings — from there you can add your first shortcut and start rebuilding your list.

> [!TIP]
>
> Your shortcuts are saved automatically in your browser. They persist across sessions and are not shared with any server.
